There’s some travel moments that stay with you always.
One of mine is getting a glimpse of the Loch Ness monster in Scotland.
Ok so maybe it was just a sticker on the window of a boat while cruising the loch, but the Highlands which surround old Nessie are truly unforgettable.
My group opted to do an all day trip to the Highlands with a company called Highland Experience. It was excellent fun, even if our maturely aged kilt wearing driver seemed determined to kill us judging from the speed at which he took corners.
I rarely, if ever get motion sickness but it felt as if I’d left my stomach in Edinburgh, from the minute I buckled my seatbelt.
That being said, he did manage to get us to a crazy amount of sites that day, which was much appreciated.
One highlight in particular was getting to see the same type of train in action that was used for the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter movies (one of my all time favourite books and films).
There was a stop at the ruins of an ancient castle, a war memorial and various photo opportunities of nature just doing its thing and for the most part, the day was about the wonderful rolling scenery to behold.
In Australia I don’t get to see this amount of green EVER so I never tired of staring out the window during this long driving day!

The weather was very chilly in September but we were fortunate in that it never rained while we were in Scotland.
Regardless of what time of year you visit though, a trip to the Highlands will always be worth it and if possible staying longer is strongly advised!
