UAE

Dubai

Where: Ibis World Trade Center

Verdict: I booked this hotel through Emirates’ stopover package as it was at a fairly good rate. Funnily enough the lady at reservations forgot/failed to mention that my arrival date in Dubai coincided with a skincare conference for a large Chinese company meaning that since my hotel was next to the convention centre about 15,000 people were outside my window each day. It actually was pretty hilarious and was all the taxi drivers in the city seemed to be talking about too!

My room itself was very clean and well kept, it was fairly modern too. The wifi was free and excellent.

Location: As I mentioned, the Ibis is right next to the main convention center in Dubai, therefore it’s definitely more business/corporate focused. So if you’re wanting a hotel for a relaxing/holiday purpose with a great pool this is not it and you’d want to be nearer to the marina and palm island areas of the city. However, for the price and relatively close location to Dubai Mall, plus the 2 minute walk to the local transport of their overground metro (you will be so thankful it is this close especially when the temperature is high!) it fit perfectly for my budget needs.

Price: Starts from about 350 AED (115 AUD) per night for a standard room. Dubai is not the most affordable place when it comes to accommodation but I felt this was pretty good value for the city. There are reasonably priced hotels in the Deira area too however my friend used to live in Dubai and said it wouldn’t be her first choice so I didn’t really look into it too much! Breakfast was not included in the rate but can be bought for around 15 AUD (45 AED) from memory and had a selection of fruit, coffee/tea and continental staples. I stayed in April, please remember that prices can change depending on the season.
